Network Connection Issues
With connectivity issues, one thing that
springs immediately to mind is that your router is set to auto channel hop and
has set itself to channel 12 or 13. Unfortunately, the Q2 is not able to use
these two channels because it is based on a US WLAN chipset. Try setting your
router to one of channels 1 - 11 to see if this fixes the issue.
So we can help
you further, can you work through the following example and let us know exactly
where the unit fails?
- Start with
the radio turned off and disconnected from your computer.
- Turn on the
radio using the switch at the back
- Attach the
radio to your computer using the USB cable supplied
- Launch the
Q2 Internet Radio Application which you should have downloaded and
installed already
- Presently
you should see the computer icon in the bottom left hand corner turn
green. The red LED on the radio should start to flash.
- Press the
blue Networks tab
- In the
Available Wifi Networks column you should see at least one network listed.
- Make sure
you identify your own network correctly and drag this into the #1 position
on the Chosen Networks tab (even if there
is one there already just drag it on top).
- If you have
a security password you will be prompted to enter it. It is important that
you type in the password exactly as it appears in the router set-up page.
Bear in mind that WPA passwords are case sensitive.
- The Network
is now configured. The network name text in the Chosen Networks column
should change from black to orange to green and the network icon in
both the bottom left and in the Chosen Networks column should turn green.
Also the red LED on the radio should stop flashing and be extinguished.
The radio is now connected to the network
If the radio will not connect check the following in this order:
- Try turning
the radio off and on again In order to conserve battery power the
radio does stop looking for a network after five minutes if it hasn't
found one by then.
- Did you
correctly identify your own network? Unless you changed the SSID of your
network the generic name will not be immediately obvious so you may have
mis-identified an adjacent network as your own. Open the configuration
page for your router (e.g http://bthomehub.home/
and change the SSID to something more memorable.
- Did you type
in the password correctly complete with spaces and capitalisations? The
application does not inform the user if the password is incorrect so you
have to be careful here. To re-enter the password just drag the desired
network on top of the old one and type in the password again.
- Try moving
the radio nearer the router. Turn the radio off at the back and move it
right next to the router. Turn it on again and wait until the red light is
extinguished. This should not take more than two minutes, if it does....
- Is your
router configured for DHCP? If you have set it to manual IP the radio will
not be issued an IP address and so cannot connect. At present the radio
only works with DHCP enabled routers (all routers are DHCP enabled by
default) You can check and adjust this in the router set up page.
- Is your
router set to Auto channel hop? If so it may be using Channels 12 or 13.
Because the Q2 uses only channels 1 – 11 it may not be able to see your
router. Please set your router to a set channel between 1 – 11.
- Try
changing the wifi security protocol from WEP to WPA2 - this has helped in
many cases where the radio will not connect.
Let us know if you are still having problems after trying these tips. If you
are not able to make changes to your router setting, please tell us the make and model so that we are able to assist further.
